Favorite films of the year

I was just thinking today about what my favorite movies of the year are, and I'm surprised at how there are no straight manly action films on my list. Maybe I'm growing as a person.

127 Hours
Social Network

Inception
The Other Guys
The Crazies
The Book of Eli
The Town

The Losers, The Expendables, Predators - all disappointed. I didn't see RED because I was afraid it would be like those other three, and I just couldn't handle the heartache.  Kick Ass and Salt were pretty good, but not good enough for me to rank it as a best of type thing. The Good, The Bad, The Weird was probably my favorite movie I saw this year, but that came out in Korea in 2008.

I still have high hopes for True Grit.

The award for worst movie of the year is a tie between Legion and Cop Out.

What's your choice? What did you love and hate in 2010?

  1. The Social Network by far. Winter's Bone is up there. I just saw Get Low and liked it, but only saw it once. Rabbit Hole was strictly for the actors. Not much story there and only tiny character development. My rule of thumb is if I can see a film multiple times. Inception didn't hold up on a second viewing. Haven't yet seen 127 Hours, The King's Speech, The Fighter. I saw The Good, The Bad, The Weird lately and enjoyed it, but yes, 2008.

  2. RED was a definite winner in my books. Lots of comedy and intrigue it was a fun watch for me.

    Happy Holidays, Emily!

here's my 2010 list. Definitely no award winners here.

Best Action Flick - Centurion. Buckets of blood and never boring.

Best Horror Flick - Paranormal Activity 2. Better than the first in my humble opinion.

Best Drama - Edge of Darkness. I know, I know... a Mel Gibson film. I can already hear the boos through the screen.

Silly Fun Flick - Devil. This year's Drag Me to Hell.

    Cheers.

    Emily,
    Book of Eli, really?
    But rottentomatoes.com hated it.
And it flopped at the box office.
And as a test, I asked 4 screenwriters from Starbucks if they saw it...NOPE. NO ONE SAW IT.
But then 80% of the critics from rottentomatoes.com loved THE MATRIX or SHERLOCK HOLMES.
My point, a good movie is good and a bad movie is bad. Critics are usually right.

  5. Book of Eli wasn't a bomb. It grosses 157 mil on an 80 mil budget.

But I base my opinions on the movie I saw, not the movie other people saw.

  6. I'm not sure if anonymous is being sarcastic or not.

Sherlock Holmes sucked a big old dick. I didn't like Book of Eli much but it definitely wasn't a bad movie. I had just seen it before, minus the twist, which I didn't like.

My favorite of the year is The Social Network. The cast and crew of TSN reminds me of the 1996 Chicago Bulls. They were just operating on a higher level than everybody else.

But I haven't seen The Fighter or 127 Hours just yet.

  8. The Social Network. Black Swan. The Ghost Writer. I Am Love. Inception. Let Me In. Greenberg. That's all I've got right now, but there are a few I haven't seen yet.

Saw Book of Eli at the Chinese with two other people in the entire huge place. For some reason they ran it for over two months in the big house and I saw it in one of the last few days. Wouldn't put it on a ten best list, but I liked it just fine.
