It's just a symbol

Mom and British Grandmother have decided I should sell my wedding dress. This dress is beautiful and only worn twice by me in the shop. I never even wore the final version since I called off the wedding right before the alterations were finished. It's been sitting in storage ever since.

This is a $1400 dress. It's perfect for the girl I was then, but I guess Mom's right. That dress is kind of dramatic and fit more for a princess than the practical girl I am now. If I get married it will probably be on a beach with no shoes on, not in some fancy gazebo with 200 people watching.

Still, it's a beautiful dress. I don't regret not getting to wear it, but it's hard to let go of something that came with that little girl dream of the big blue wedding.

That was my dream, anyway. Lots of blue. Even the cake was blue.

So that's what I'm doing tomorrow - taking one last look at the dress I never wore and handing it over to the people at the resale place to see what they can get for it.

2008: the year of moving on.

  1. I hope you buy something nice with the money you get for it, like a trip to do research on a writing project, or an accessory for your new laptop, or storyboard software, or ?? Anything but paying the utilities with it...

  2. At least you'll have some money for food now, huh? :)

I know it's hard to turn loose of things that mark important events and moments in our lives, but in the end it always turns out for the best. It seems the "memories", fogged over by time, are often better than the actual events :)

  3. Emily, why did you call the wedding off? What was the man you almoast married like? Gosh, this story has the makings of real life, "Runaway Bride" ...

Never loose "the dream." Screenwriters never loose "the dream." Go to the movies and renew your faith. Go see "Enchanted." I was prety bummed on Christmass Eve. BUT I went and saw "Enchanted" and I felt MUCH better afterwards. Trust me on this, there's somemthing about that movie. It renews hope -- and it's geared towards the woman viewer. Stop being practical. Get back to being awesome!

  4. That's how you should start a story/script. A woman bringing her never used wedding dress to a reselling place. No dialogue but just images.

  5. I'm going to use it to pay rent. Trust me, that will make me happier than any new toy right now.

I like that idea, SP. I don't write romantic comedy but that sounds like a good beginning to one. You can have it if you want.

  6. Is that "aws" as in "Aws!" or "aws" as in "awwwwwws!"

  7. Thanks Emily!

Though my initial thought was a drama.
